Thanks again to everyone. I will ask him to join IV. :) He like me has been in the country for over 10 years. The combined stress (finding a partner plus this gc dragging thing) has made him catatonic to some extent.
He is just doing his job and looks beyond caring about anything anymore.But I worry for him so thats the reason for the post.

Had the visit. Went very pleasant but fruitless. Officer told me all checks except "background" check had been done. Beyond this, she refrained from making any usefull remark.:rolleyes:

We have some talented hardworking young men & women who are always on top of things. This group of wo/men are IV-Core. They know all the bills that are being introduced, and definately IV will support whichever one (beneficial to us) if/when it comes out (Either House/Senate). But the thing to remember is that there is a long procedure. Just because of introduction, dosent mean they would be on calendar.
Some of these bills are place-holders, some of these are just like pressure building tactics, and some are to please some big lobby (High-tech employers lobby) that "look I got the bill introduced", I care. Dosent mean that it will be on calendar. Lots of these so called bills, never make it to the calendar. It might be that one or two may get bundled into CIR.
NOW. The most important thing for us is to not get excited that this bill, or that bill has gotten introduced. We need to build on it and raise awareness. Not on the forum but by meeting our lawmakers. When lawmakers in all 50 states get some feedback one-to-one meeting with IV members, that will get them thinking. Some of them do not know that these bills are being introduced and mayget introduced.
It is our goal to highlight that this will help us, so when they go back they pay attention to our issues.
So if you havent scheduled a meeting with your congressmen, do it. Leave all the rest to the core team. They are already doing the needfull.
We should definitely support this bill. It will help reduce the EB backlog for us considerably. There are two provisions in this bill which if passed would help reduce the backlog a lot.
a) Exempt spouses and minor children of the principal applicant from employment-based immigrant visa quotas. At least half the backlog is due to dependents of the applicant using GC visas and this should reduce the backlog considerably.
b)� Exempt STEM advanced degree graduates who have 3 years of U.S. work experience as a non-immigrant from the numerical limit on employment-based immigrant visas, in addition to those who are deemed to have extraordinary ability, are outstanding professors and researchers, and whose presence is determined to be in the national interest of the United States. Another 20% of the applicants specially with indian passports would fit this category and hence thought would reduce the backlog significantly as well.
c) The most important thing about this Bill is that it offers some relief entirely for the skilled employees without associating them with the fate of illegals. There is very little controversial elements in this Bill. Remember the main bone of contention between Democrats & Republicans in CIR is about the fate of illegal immigrants and how tough an approach they should have on them. This might easily scuttle CIR this year and we might have to wait till 2009 before anything else comes up again. There is not much that the parties disagree on with regards to Hightech skilled workers and a bill such as this which offers interim relief has much better chance of being passed. Agreed some groups such as IEEE-US might oppose it (specially the provisions related H1B increase) but even IEEE-US does support sorting out the EB GC issues and backlogs and might support those provisions on this Bill.
In conclusion IV should definitely support this Bill.

We applied for I-485 in June 2007, our priority date is 10/2002. We applied for EAD after we submitted our I-485 application. The EAD was filed on Jul 25 and it was approved today. I guess the higher fees have improved USCIS's efficiency. I was expecting it to take a few months at least. Good luck to you lot.

Same here.MTR approved NOV 2008 but online still showing Denied.It's strange feeling when you see denied status online..........Just live with it
Its been 2 years but my I-485 still shows denied although my MTR got approved and i have renewed 2 EADs and 2 APs etc.
Don't know for sure but i sent a letter to whitehouse and they sent a response couple of months later indicating my case is waiting for VISA number and everything else is alright.
And since my EADs and APs are approved in 2 years i am not that worried about online showing denied.

Thanks. This sure is helpful. btw i have a Canadian PR card. one less headache in step 3 :) But of course I love it here so im stuck here doing all kinds of circus for 8 years to continue staying.

1. Look out for dates, after registering and paying fees. USD 9.50 for one appointment of one, two, three .... members.
2. Dates are not available, but are released around 20th in bult; also, check out each hour.
3. Allow 30 days for Canadian TRV (temporay visitors visa) to come in mail

It is a great achievement. Congrats to the core team and all the volunteers who contributed. There is a Tamil proverb meaning, "little rain droplets make a huge river". Each of our small contribution would definitely give us financial strength to put forth our case with the US congress & Government.

For the past one week I posted more then 50 fliers in many of the apartment communities in my neighborhood and also sent lot of emails to friends and groups & forums in my company.
I did receive few disappointing comments on our effort but ignored and continuing my effort.

I did something different.
In the field "Date of last entry into US", by mistake i put the I-94 validity date. On I-94, there is the date paroled and also the I-94 valid until. By mistake i put in May 2010 instead of May 2009. I did submit the application. When i was sending the supporting documents, i put a cover letter asking them to correct the date. I have to see how they respond. Did anyone actually get this thing corrected. And does these things cause any delays in the processing of the EAD application.

Hi,
I've already completed my 6 yrs on H1, have my 140 approved, applied for extension and got it (before 6 yr expiry). The extension has been approved for 3 years.
Now -- I need to change employers as my employer is asking me to become full time from consulting.
2 questions:
1. Can I use this extension to change employers?
2. Can I start the GC process with the 140 priority date? (Feb '08)?

You will have to restart your GC process, but once you have the new PERM and I-140 approved, you can recapture your old PD (which is Feb '08), but you can't use provisions from the AC21 unless your AOS was pending for at least 180 days when you make the change.
This is not legal advise - a lawyer consultation is highly recommended.

I am from India. My previous attorney paper filed my I-140 in Nov. 2006. My new attorney filed I-485 in July 2007. My new attorney has received only the copy of I-140 application and receipt from the previous attorney.
In late 2008, with the help of a congressman, my new attorney was able to figure out that USCIS has lost my original I-140 application (filed at Nebraska center) and USCIS has issued the same I-140 receipt no. to somebody else. Then USCIS auto-created a new I-140 and gave me SRC receipt no. with filing date as Jan 2008 and as electronically filed by my previous attorney.
The new I-140 (SRC one) got approved in March 2009.
Got RFE in August 2009 for my I-485 application asking for the approval notice of my original I-140. My new attorney responded with all the history and the new I-140 approval notice.
Now I have received NOID for my I-485 threatening that if I don't submit the original receipt for the original I-140 then USCIS will deny my application. The USCIS is saying that auto-created I-140 has been filed more than 6 months later than filing I-485 case and can't be the base for filing I-485.
The previous attorney has not provided the original receipt of the original I-140 application and is not reachable via any means (doesn't respond to e-mail or phone calls. Well, are we all not trying to be Americans? So what�s wrong with cheering for the guy who makes this nation proud? If we were ALL trying to permanently migrate to India, in that case you will not see any opposition to Bhindra's achievement. I personally think that there is no need to make issue out of "this" or "that" on the forum for everything going on in the world. Both these gentleman and others who did well are remarkably disciplined human beings and we ought to celebrate their perfection, maybe by trying to be closer to perfection showing a little more appreciation for each other.
Although I must quote a reporter on the news recently who said "When we wave Americans flags, we want to be called/seen as patriots and when others wave their flags, we call them nationalist". I found this comment very interesting.
The point is, no matter what, we will find our differences superseding anything and everything in front of us under any given situation. That�s just Great�. maybe that�s part of being human �. do we expect ourselves to behave/react better than this�. Maybe we just want others to behave better than "this".

I am not sure what came out of this campaign (I really haven't read the entire thread), but it appears that at first glance, it had to do with limiting EB2s to certain job titles.
I read some posts from the thread you mentioned and i was not able to read it entirely as it was a very long thread. I couldn't figure out what changed with respect to EB2 job zones. I have filed my current perm in EB2 with senior software engineer title and i am not sure what will happen to that. I am in this country for 5 years and still struggling to get my PERM approved (So far i have filed PERM three times :)) Is there anyone in IV who has got their PERM approved with Priority date from DECEMBER 2008 onwards? This will be little encouraging.

If your I-485 EAD comes through you have to use that and not the F1 EAD.
My wife has both OPT EAD (on F1) and 485 EAD. Both are valid. The OPT EAD was applied before july since we did not know abt the july thing earlier....
Now my question is which one should she use for employment..Also if either can be used then OPT ead is preferred since on OPT you do not have to pay Social Security and Medicare Taxes

Organize 'chai-samosa' or 'idli-sambar' fund-raisers, for God's sake, if nothing else - to raise funds!

Congrads!! you seem to be lucky. I noticed that several other of our regular posters have PDs earlier than you and are still waiting. Why do you say 10 years? your PD is 04 so that makes it 5 years :D:D
I believe they go by RD if the PD is current. My RD is jul 2nd and my application reached them early AM on Jul 2nd.

I came to Montreal to have my H1 stamping done and am stuck here since 3/18. They told me they want to search the company and will call me back with in 10 days but no response yet.
Pls. ensure you have all valid documents before you get here but you can not go back with expired visa.
Do you have AP? If yes bring with you. I did't have mine so I am stuck.
